As part of the National Conference on the Civilizational Governance Model of Science and Technology and Research and Technology Week, a specialized session on the benefits and harms of fungi was held with a lecture by Dr. Mostafa Darvishnia, a faculty member of the Plant Protection Department of the Faculty of Agriculture, Lorestan University, with the presence of Dr. Ali-Heydar Nasrollahi, the Dean of the Faculty.

According to the Public Relations of Lorestan University, this session was held on December 25th of the current year, at 10:00 AM in the meeting hall of the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Agriculture, Lorestan University, with the presence of some faculty members and students of the faculty.

The topic of the session was the classification of fungi based on their importance in agriculture, the environment and bioremediation, biotechnology, medicine and pharmaceuticals, nanotechnology, industry, food production, etc.

In this session, Dr. Darvishnia said: "Fungi are among the most important organisms in the human environment and have benefits and harms, and the position of these organisms is of special importance. Some of the benefits of fungi include the decomposition of organic matter in nature, application in biological and genetic studies, processing of materials, use in fermentation and acidic materials, preparation of alcohol and alcoholic beverages, application in pharmaceutical and drug industries, food preparation, energy preparation and substitutes for non-degradable materials and fungal composites, bioremediation and biological control against plant and animal pathogens, symbiosis with plants and plant growth stimulants."

He explained: "The harms of fungi can also include pathogenicity in humans (such as skin, internal, respiratory diseases and sometimes death) and animals, poultry (skin and internal diseases) and plants (various diseases in vegetables, solanaceous and cucurbitaceous plants, fruit and forest trees, agricultural plants), the production of toxins and fungal toxins in the basidia and various plant organs, especially in seeds and fruits of plants, some of which, such as aflatoxin, are even non-degradable at very high temperatures and can cause many problems for consumers."

In this session, professors and students shared their questions about the topic with Dr. Darvishnia.
