Iran-Iraq Science Week / Collaboration Meeting of Lorestan University's Faculty of Natural Resources with the University of Sulaymaniyah Held

In line with the programs of Iran and Iraq's Science Week and to strengthen international scientific diplomacy, a virtual preliminary planning meeting for scientific cooperation between the Faculty of Natural Resources of Lorestan University and the University of Sulaimani, Iraqi Kurdistan Region, was held.

According to the Public Relations of Lorestan University, this virtual meeting was held on Wednesday evening, January 16th of the current year, with the aim of providing a basis for international scientific cooperation based on the exchange of faculty and students, the implementation of study opportunities, conducting joint research and conferences between the two universities.

Dr. Ahmad Soran (Biology Department) and Dr. Soma Majed (Zoology Department) of the University of Sulaimani, Iraqi Kurdistan Region, attended this virtual meeting as representatives of the University of Sulaimani.

In this meeting, Dr. Ali Haghighizadeh, the Dean of the Faculty of Natural Resources of Lorestan University, while expressing the capacities and scientific and research capabilities of Lorestan University and the Faculty of Natural Resources, pointed out the potential areas of bilateral cooperation in various fields and disciplines and proposed the initial agreement to follow up on the conclusion of a memorandum of cooperation and the exchange of delegations from both sides, which was approved by the other party.

The representatives of the University of Sulaimani, while confirming the proposals, expressed their university's desire to expand joint scientific cooperation.

Dr. Navid Zamani, a member of the Environmental Department of the Faculty of Natural Resources of Lorestan University, as the liaison of Lorestan University at the University of Sulaimani, Iraqi Kurdistan Region, explained some of the potential capacities for inter-university cooperation, especially in the fields of environment, fisheries, watershed management, and forestry.

Dr. Manouchehr Nasri, the Head of the Consular Affairs Department of Universities and Higher Education Centers of Lorestan Province, while presenting a clip introducing Lorestan University, expressed Lorestan University's desire for bilateral scientific cooperation and invited visiting delegations from both universities.

According to Dr. Manouchehr Nasri, the Head of the Consular Affairs Department of Universities and Higher Education Centers of Lorestan Province, the University of Sulaimani is among the top three universities in Iraq.

Dr. Nasri said: "The people of Sulaimani, Iraqi Kurdistan Region, have cultural commonalities and strong emotional ties with the people of Iran."

In the mentioned virtual meeting:

1_ It was approved that a draft memorandum of understanding be prepared by the International Scientific Cooperation Group of Lorestan University and sent to the University of Sulaimani, Iraqi Kurdistan Region.

2_ It was approved that a joint virtual group be created by Dr. Navid Zamani to continue the negotiations and reach a final result.

3_ It was approved that one of the issues to be followed up by the President of Lorestan University in a joint meeting with the universities of Iraq would be the implementation of the memorandum of understanding. Also, the necessary follow-up for the full implementation of the joint scientific agreements should be carried out by the President of the University of Sulaimani, Iraqi Kurdistan Region.
