Dec 16, 2024
In line with the programs commemorating Research and Technology Week, a scientific visit for students of the Forest Science and Engineering Department of the Faculty of Natural Resources at Lorestan University was organized to a part of the northern forests located in Mazandaran province.
According to the Public Relations of Lorestan University, in this program, which was supervised by Dr. Seyed Vahid Seyedna, Head of the Forest Science and Engineering Department of Lorestan University, and accompanied by faculty members of this department, including Dr. Babak Pilehvar and Dr. Kambiz Abrari Vajari, and hosted by the Faculty of Natural Resources and Marine Sciences of Tarbiat Modares University, students visited various forest habitats (the educational and research forest of the Faculty of Natural Resources of Tarbiat Modares University and the Vaz forest in Chamestan region of Mazandaran province).
Familiarization with various forest species, including the understory vegetation, shrubs, and forest trees, identification of different forest types and communities, altitudinal layers (stratification) of the forest, regeneration and natural renewal of forest species, measurement and biometrics of forest trees, identification of humus and forest soils, cultivation of fast-growing wood species, familiarity with harvesting and wood transportation machinery, and other ecological and technical forest topics were conducted through field teaching and providing necessary explanations by the faculty members.
During this scientific trip, students visited the Caspian Forest Tree Seed Center located in Amol city, which is the only active government institution in the country in the field of identification, collection, processing, and storage of forest tree seeds from different growing regions of the country.
Familiarization with the activities and actions of this center, visiting specialized laboratories, various stages of seed processing, and the special cold storage for seed storage as a genetic reserve bank of forest trees were explained to the students by the experts of this center and Dr. Seyedna.
Visiting various sections of the Faculty of Natural Resources and Marine Sciences of Tarbiat Modares University located in Noor city, including educational, research, laboratories, and the botanical garden, was among the other programs of this scientific visit.
In this regard, Dr. Ali Haghi Zadeh, Dean of the Faculty of Natural Resources at Lorestan University, told our reporter: "Considering the nature of natural resources disciplines and the approved course outlines of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, conducting visits and scientific trips for practical familiarization of students of these disciplines with natural areas and acquiring applied training and field skills is necessary."
