Department of Soil Science and Engineering
Soil, as one of the most important components of nature and the foundation for plant growth, is formed by various natural factors and processes over relatively long periods. Awareness of soil characteristics is essential for the proper utilization and management of this God-given resource. Understanding the process of soil formation and transformation, recognizing soil and its components, comprehending the relationship between various factors affecting soil properties, implementing practical and comprehensive management in utilization, increasing productivity and production potential, preventing soil degradation, and paying attention to the principles of sustainable agriculture highlight the necessity and importance of this field. Furthermore, attention to soil is one of the requirements for sustainable development, improving management standards, and creating food security for the country's growing population.
Extensive and rapid advancements in various fields of soil science and engineering, along with the need to transfer educational, research, and applied findings to students, have made it inevitable to revise the titles, syllabi, and content of theoretical and practical courses. Considering the relatively long time since the last national (last revision in 2002) and regional and university-level revisions, a new revision is urgently needed. This revision has been undertaken with the grace of God and the cooperation of all soil science and engineering departments across the country and is now being presented for implementation.
Training capable students to manage and meet the specialized needs related to soil science and engineering is one of the goals of this program. It is hoped that the country's management system will be able to utilize and benefit from the human capital that has been trained.
Considering the different needs of various regions of the country in terms of climate, science, economics, and management, and the necessity of meeting these needs by universities and scientific and educational departments of soil science and engineering, this program is presented in five different options. Depending on the decision of the relevant university board, each university can implement one of the options or, simultaneously, several specific options. To diversify education, they can change up to 20 percent of the syllabi or course content (without changing the course title) with the approval of the competent authority of their university.
Goal
The "Soil Science and Engineering" undergraduate program aims to provide committed and specialized human resources in the sciences and techniques related to soil science and engineering and to utilize land resources to achieve self-sufficiency in agriculture. Specialists in this field, by learning the relevant sciences and techniques and using scientific and research achievements, work to solve problems and provide necessary solutions in the recognition and utilization of the country's soil resources.

In the second semester of 2008, the Soil Science program was independently established in the Faculty of Agriculture of Lorestan University with the number of students in the second shift. In 2014, this program accepted students in the daytime program.
In 2011, it accepted students in the Master's program and in 2012 in the Doctoral program in the fields of Chemistry and Fertility and Soil Genesis, Classification, and Evaluation. Since September 2015, it has also been accepting students in the Doctoral program in the field of Physics and Soil Conservation. Also, from September 2015, Master's students will be accepted with 3 fields of Physics and Soil Conservation, Soil Genesis, Classification, and Evaluation, and Chemistry and Soil Fertility.
In the second semester of 2014-2015, with the efforts of the department head, a separate website was designed for the Soil Science and Engineering program in addition to the Faculty of Agriculture website of Lorestan University so that students could use its content. www.soilgroup.ir
